Fees
[spacer]

The club has worked hard to try and bring you the thrill and enjoyment of gliding at the very lowest rates possible. These fees are significantly less than what you would pay at other airfields due to the non-commercal nature of both the Chiltern's Gliding Centre and the UCL Union Gliding Club. These low prices do not reflect the standard of instruction, and anyone interested in learning to fly should take advantage of this rare opportunity. Below you will find an outline of our membership fees and flying rates:

Full membership
(1 academic year)
£40
Launch fee (per flight) £4.50 (£3.50 to Halton / £1.00 to UCLUGC)
Soaring fee* (during flight) £0.10 per minute after 10 minutes

e.g. A typical half-hour flight would cost £6.50 (£4.50 Launch Fee + £2.00 Soaring Fee) *Soaring fees do not apply when flying in UCLUGC's own aircraft and are only charged when flying gliders from the RAFGSA fleet.

Try

The club offers taster sessions (aka. trials) to non-members during a limited period at the start of each year for £20, inclusive of all flying costs for the day. We are currently unable to offer such sessions during the rest of the year, although due to popular demand we are looking at options that would make it possible. Trials are currently not available for booking.

Join

To join the club, please visit the Clubs and Societies Centre on the 2nd floor of the Bloomsbury Theatre and speak to the person at reception. You will need either cash or a cheque book, as credit/debit cards are NOT accepted. Alternatively, you can now buy memberships online (UCL students only).

All current UCL students are eligible to join the club. UCL staff and alumni, as well as students and staff of other University of London colleges may also join, but must apply to become an Affiliate Member of the UCL Union first (this can be done at the Clubs and Societies Centre).

Please note that (except during trials) you MUST be a member of the club before you fly.

When you become a member, obtain a logbook upon your first visit to the airfield. This is used to keep a record of your flights and training progress, and costs £1.50.
